Spinal Anesthesia

Intramural block and intrathecal block is a type of local anesthesia including the infusion of local anesthesia in to the sub arachnoid space, for the most part through a fine needle, more often than 9 cm long. For obese patients long needles are accessible.

Drugs used for spinal anesthesia in caesarian section are mainly local anesthetics of either the amide or ester class, based on the link existent between the amine and aromatic arms. The aromatic arm account for lipids-solublity,which in turn determine its potency, that is the more lipid soluble the drug , the faster the time of onset and the greater and also the ability to bind plasma proteins is the indicator of the duration of action of drug.
